Birth + Postpartum Doula

Tell us about your life!

I live with my husband, Daniel, of 19 years. Along with the two of us are our five (5!!!) kids. Marzella, Joseph, Sofia, Eugene, and Beatrice. We also have 3 sphynx cats (Clawdia, Minka, and Huxley) and a Chinese Crested puppy named Louis (pronounced “Looo-weee.”) And last but not least, my mom lives in our suite.

How long have you lived on Vancouver Island? What’s your favorite part of island life?

I first moved to the Island in 2000. We moved away for Daniel’s work training in 2008 and then moved back in 2015. I love the relaxed pace of life. The natural beauty. It’s always green here and you’re never more than a few minutes away from the beach, a hiking trail, or a lake and mountain!

If you could write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?

I’ll sleep when I die!” ? And that’s self explanatory… 5 kids and two jobs keeps me awfully busy!?

What song would you sing at karaoke night?

Funny story, we got a karaoke machine for the family Christmas present this year. Best gift ever!! We all love to sing even if we are each at different skill levels. I like Shake It Off and Safe and Sound.

What series can you binge-watch on repeat?

Friends and Seinfeld

What takes up way too much of your time?

Cleaning my house!

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I’m a first generation Canadian!

Describe your ideal weekend!

A weekend away at Tigh-Na-Mara then come home to a clean house.

Tell us about one of your most memorable moments as a doula.

Watching the hospital staff work together as a fine-tuned machine especially the several times where they have saved my clients’ lives in an emergency situation.

What made you become a doula?

I knew that I have a passion for the child bearing year and then realizing that as a doula I am invited to watch the magical miracle of a new life enter this world, I knew that this was my calling! I am so grateful to have the privilege to be a guardian and helper to each labouring client and then watch the transformation into a new family dynamic! I am dedicated in my life to growing in my profession and expanding my knowledge to support and serve the families in our community.
